28mm WW2 German Fallschirmjager Army Project

 I've spent last weekend going through a large shoebox of 28mm WW2 German Fallschirmjager that my friend Rob gave me. It came with other boxes full of Warlord and Foundry Ancient Celts etc. The German Paras were the ones that really caught my eye (easily a complete army and all metal). Rob is having a clearout - like most wargamers do when they've purchased too many projects. I'm in a trade deal where I exchange him things that aren't going to take up space, for miniatures (such as nights out for pizza, trips to see live bands and so forth). Anyway, I've taken time off from work and decided to begin painting them.

They are a mix of Artizan, Warlord and I believe some Foundry. I really like Artizan figures because they have a nice balance of detail with large flat areas that are great for painting camo etc. The box has both Early War and Late war Fallschirmjager and hence has figures with the 'onesie' smock and larger loose fitting jacket types. This is fine for me as they sometimes wore the former smock right through to the end of the war.

I used a very similar painting method to my British Paras. So, a mix of both contrast/speed paints and Vallejo base coats. For the Camo smocks I did a primer of Wight Bone spray (GW) and then a wash of Skeleton Horde Contrast (GW). When dried I did a slash/triangle pattern of AK Interactive Olive Green and Rhinox Hide brown (GW again). The helmets are all Vallejo Luftwaffe Uniform blue grey.

The guys at the Loughborough Club are inclined towards the Chain of Command rules on occasion, so I'm aiming to introduce the army during our games over the summer.
